accolades
i was truly amazed and privileged to read an article written about none other than me in the forbes website. it was a major lift-me-up and in many respects i feel i don't deserve it, yet i'm not complaining. what i particularly liked is the way it commented on my blog as a nearly completed work rather than concentrating on only one specific post or one post at a time. it meant a lot to me, larry husten and for your more than kind words, i thank you.
for those new to this blog, it is also a nice way to link to some of the old, forgotten posts that are quite often a lot better than the current material. for established readers, the links are still refreshing in that one can rediscover old unpolished gems.
also, it in itself is a well written piece (with fancy capitals and everything!!)
for those who would like to read it, the link is here.

just when you thought it was safe to come out of the woods

this nomination comes at a time of reflection and introspection for me. it comes at a time when my writing has waned somewhat and i have even wondered at its point. yet when something like this comes along i truly am humbled and i do consider either continuing this blog or possibly finding another forum for these musings.
anyway, for those that think there may be something to be gleamed from my scrawlings, please feel free to vote for me. however i actually advise you all to use these awards to more thoroughly explore the blogs of my worthy opponents, and if you find their writings more inspiring or more creative then please do not vote for me but rather for them. also the awards are for 2010, so please do not judge me by the recent stuff that finds its way onto this blog. rather delve into some of the posts that landed here in the year gone by. some of them are worth the read i think.

at last, a golden llama!
i have just been awarded the prestigious golden llama award by the illustrious doctor rob over at musings of a distractible mind. he awarded it in a nice little limerick.a blogger from far away nation
made blogworld his lone destination
so bongi’s awarded
his praise is accorded
given sans capitalization
i'm highly impressed with this most coveted of blog awards, but i feel a bit guilty (not guilty enough not to display the award of course). you see the reason i ended up in las vegas for the blogworld expo was entirely due to the efforts of doctor val over at better health. so, as part of my acceptance speech, let me acknowledge dr val as the catalyst that flew me over the ocean to the very strange land of las vegas.

Arte y Pico
ruraldoctoring has bestowed upon me the arte y pico award. she praised me with possibly the nicest words ever spoken about my blog. i quote:"One of the best writers in New Media Medicine, his posts are both gripping and intensely moving. He's like a blogging Joseph Conrad."
the rules of the award are as follows.
Here are the rules:
- You have to pick five blogs that you consider deserve this award in terms of creativity, design, interesting material, and general contributions to the blogger community, no matter what language.
- Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.
- Each winner has to show the award and give the name and link to the blog that has given him or her the award itself.
- Each winner and each giver of the prize has to show the link of “Arte y pico” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.
- To show these rules.
so let's see if i can nominate a few.
- just up the dose is a very well written blog and also gives a good insight into south african medicine.
- a really worthwhile read is buckeye, a surgeon after my own heart, even if he objects to my open appendisectomies.
- make mine trauma has such a love for her work which is clearly portrayed on her blog.
- eishmadiskakhi may be a new blog but so typically south african and so very entertaining, it definitely deserves mention.
- it may be a blog in hiatus, but surgeonsblog is still the best medical blog in my humble opinion.

best medical weblog

i can't believe it. i have actually been nominated for an award. to tell the truth, i'm quite excited. however, in the same category are great names, including greats like:- Surgeonsblog, Respectful Insolence, Aetiology, Dr. Wes, The Independent Urologist, Junkfood Science, Kevin, M.D., Panda Bear, MD, retired doc's thoughts and Women's Health News.
so, truth be told, i think i have zero chance. still feels pretty good to get a nomination though.
